The Southern California Medical Museum
Donation Policy
The Southern California Medical Museum actively seeks and collects old, rare, and unique medical artifacts, books, and archival materials. The Museum typically acquires materials that document the history of medicine in Southern California and the West; however, medical collections from other regions, states or countries will be considered.
SCMM collects materials from ancient times to the present. Although we seek artifacts that are particularly old, rare, and unique, newer materials will be considered. Of course, SCMM does not accept everything. Materials that do not fit the scope of our collections, are duplicates of other museum materials, do not fit in available storage facilities, or are in particularly poor condition may be declined.
Donations to the Southern California Medical Museum are subject to the following agreements:
• Because of limited gallery space and the policy of changing exhibits, the Southern California Medical Museum cannot promise the permanent exhibition of any object.
• All items accepted become the PERMANENT PROPERTY of the Southern California Medical Museum and are accepted without restrictions.
• If the gift includes several items, the Museum cannot agree to keep the items together as a unit at all times
• This unrestricted gift is given with the understanding that the individual items will be used in whatever manner that best benefits the Southern California Medical Museum.
• Donated items may deaccessioned at a future time in a manner that will best benefit the Southern California Medical Museum.
